During one of his weekly excursions to Killaloe to visit his aunt Margaret, Paddy O’Brien called to visit our family at 614 Cross Roads. It was the first time that I had met him. That day he played these two hornpipes. It was a moment to cherish. I previously heard him playing them on a 45rpm that he had recorded for the Copley label. On the flip side of that disc was a recording of the fiddle genius Séan McGuire playing Richard Brennon’s Jig and The Idle Road.
