about

This track gives us the opportunity to hear 5 of Maureen’s students playing two of her favourite reels. This music is testimony to both teacher and students as to what can be achieved by diligent practice and commitment in a very short time. Maureen was very proud of you all. Both of these reels come from the repertoire of the late great Kerry fiddler, Johnny Cronin. There are many versions of this tune, two of which can be found in O’Neill’s Music of Ireland.

The second reel, the Pride of Rockchapel, bears a striking resemblance to McFadden’s Handsome Daughter, recorded by another of the great Sligo fiddlers, James Morrison. McFadden’s can be found in the O’Neill Collection.
